James Coutts from East Lothian Council is presented with a Gold Standard Award.

A Gold Standard award has been presented to East Lothian Council for its work involving tenants in the delivery of its housing services.

East Lothian Council has been awarded the highest level of award by the Tenants Information Service (TIS) and Scotland’s Housing Network following a review of its tenant scrutiny framework. The award measures performance and recognises a level of customer participation, engagement, and influence by a standard of gold, silver or bronze. An independent assessment panel chaired by Scotland’s Housing Network was “very impressed with the work that the council and tenants do to embed tenant scrutiny into the delivery of housing services”. The council’s tenants scrutiny work includes mystery shopping visits to council offices, auditing information that the council publishes on its Housing policies, and involving tenants in surveys, estate inspections and consultation events.

Councillor Jim Goodfellow, Cabinet Spokesperson for Housing and Community Wellbeing, said:

“We are delighted with this award, which recognises the hard work of staff and the huge commitment of our tenant volunteers to help shape the excellent housing service we deliver. We need to continue our journey to ensure we maintain these high standards and deliver the services that our tenants expect.”

Members of the council’s housing team were formally presented with the award on Thursday 21 September, as part of a series of events marking Scottish Housing Day. An initiative led by the Chartered Institute of Housing Scotland (CIH Scotland), Scottish Housing Day aims to raise public awareness of the latest developments in housing and the different options potentially available when deciding where to live.
