Members of East Lothian Planning Committee met on Tuesday 3rd October to decide on three applications relating to Wallyford, North Berwick and Gullane.

Agreement was given for development of 185 houses at Wallyford by Persimmon Homes. This forms part of the wider Wallyford site which has permission for up to 1450 homes. Infrastructure for the whole site is already being put in place and building of some of the homes has also started. The section of development approved today includes a mix of detached, semi-detached and terraced houses and a mix of two, three, four and five-bedroomed homes. This latest development is the first housing phase of the eastern part of the wider Wallyford development, which will form an extension to the southern, eastern and western edges of Wallyford.

Committee Members then moved on to deciding to grant planning permission for a Café and parking area at Castleton Farm, North Berwick. Permission was granted for a period of five years at which point the applicant could apply for planning permission either to retain the café structure for a further period of time or to build more permanent structures on the site. Council planners had recommended refusal of permission due to the harmful visual impact of the development on what is a scenic stretch of the coastline. However, after discussion on various issues including the potential visual impact, members unanimously approved the application.

The final application for a Tree Preservation Order at The Hawthorns to Broadgait, Gullane, was also approved, meaning that the protected trees could not be pruned or removed without the prior agreement of the council.

The main relevant application numbers are: Wallyford, 17/00384/AMM and 14/00903/PPM; North Berwick, 17/00618P and Gullane TPO number 138(2017).
