East Lothian foster carers 'do a great job'

East Lothian Councillor Shamin Akhtar and East Lothian council foster carer Kirsty Tulk took proud possession of a certificate of sponsorship from East Coast FM (ECFM). The certificate, which was presented by ECFM Station Manager Ian Robertson, states that East Coast FM is a proud supporter of East Lothian Council’s Fostering Service.

‘This award is new departure for us and it’s a way of East Coast FM marking services that we think are really important to East Lothian. East Lothian is a brilliant place, with really strong communities and great community spirit. We are a community radio station, run by and for the community, and we just want to celebrate other services that demonstrate East Lothian community spirit in action. East Lothian Council’s fostering service plays a vital role by keeping East Lothian children close to their extended families and friends and making sure that they don’t lose the links to their communities that will sustain them now and in the future.

‘I have had the pleasure of interviewing lots of East Lothian Council foster carers and some of the young people they have cared for too. They are wonderful, wonderful people and they do a great job for East Lothian. This award is about recognising that.’

Education and Children’s Services spokesperson Councillor Shamin Akhtar adds:

‘We are so pleased to get this award. Our foster carers are amazing and really do help to keep young people and their communities together at time when keeping those links strong is so important. Thank you very much East Coast FM – our fostering service is very proud to be supported by you. And thank you, East Lothian foster carers – you make a difference every day.’
