IiYP gold award

East Lothian Council is a great place for young people to work - it's official!

The council has gained Gold Investors in Young People (IiYP) status for its ability to recruit, develop and retain young people.

The award is all the more important as 2018 is the national Year of Young People and this helps the council to demonstrate its commitment to supporting our young residents in achieving their goals – during a very significant year.

The gold status was awarded following a rigorous assessment of the council’s youth strategy which involved council-wide interviews, focus groups and conversations with young employees aged 16 to 28, managers and senior managers across all services.

IiYP is a strategy designed to help employers meet their goals by harnessing the creativity and skills of young people for the benefit of both the young person and the organisation. The council completed the formal assessment in November 2017

Chief Executive Angela Leitch, said:

“East Lothian Council is truly committed to the recruitment, training and development of young people and this award demonstrates we are an employer of choice for young people. This is a fantastic achievement and is testament to our effective practices around youth employment. We still want to do more and the council will develop a team of young employees to continue this work and take forward a number of recommendations from the final IiYP assessment.”
