Planning application form

Members of East Lothian Planning Committee met on Tuesday 6th February to decide on two applications relating to Bangley Quarry near Haddington and Viewforth, Dunbar.

Permission was granted for an anaerobic digester on an area of land within Bangley Quarry, which is located in the countryside to the northeast of Haddington. The proposed anaerobic digestion plant is designed to process a variety of feedstocks (including grass silage, straw and vegetable processing residues) to produce renewable gas which would be injected into the local gas network. The majority of feedstock would be sourced from the local farming markets.

Committee Members were split on their vote with six voting in favour of the planners’ recommendation to grant permission, and six voting against the application.

Planning Committee Convener Norman Hampshire used his casting vote to approve the application.

Members also agreed to amend the conditions so that HGVs, including tractors of 15 tonnes or more, can only access the site from the A199.

An application to build a house and garage on land adjacent to 5 Viewforth in Dunbar was also granted at the meeting. The main relevant application numbers are: Bangley, 17/00922/P and Dunbar, 17/00953/P.
