Enjoy new arts and crafts produced by Musselburgh Art Club members alongside Victorian landscapes

Musselburgh Art Club are delighted to announce the opening of their new exhibition which opens at Haddington’s John Gray Centre this weekend.

This vibrant exhibition entitled ‘East Lothian Artists Exhibition’ includes a range of arts and crafts made by members of the club. Much of the work will be for sale and many of the artists will be demonstrating their art in the gallery space on Saturday afternoons throughout the show. In addition, members have chosen artwork from the council’s art collection for display and to complement their own work.

Evocative landscapes painted by William Darling McKay RSA, LLD will also be on display. A local artist, McKay (1844 – 1924) was born in Gifford and trained at the Trustees Academy in Edinburgh. He associated himself with a group of artists who painted in and around East Linton, and emulating the Barbizon painters, they worked in the open air. His love of nature and the beauty of East Lothian's countryside is reflected in the pastoral artwork that he produced. On display will be an exquisite and rare still life by the artist that has not been exhibited in Haddington before.

On Saturdays 17 and 24 February, Saturdays 10 and 24 March, and Saturdays 7 and 28 April club members will be in the gallery space to meet exhibition visitors and between 1.30pm and 3.30pm. There will also be demonstrations of a variety of art and craft techniques including felting, watercolour painting, calligraphy and painting on glass.

The East Lothian Artists Exhibition opens on Saturday 10 February and runs until Wednesday 2 May at the John Gray Centre, 15 Lodge Street, Haddington.
