Angela Leitch selected as preferred candidate

East Lothian Council has announced that Angela Leitch has been selected as the local authority's preferred candidate for the post of Chief Executive.

Angela joins East Lothian from Clackmannanshire Council, where she has held the post of Chief Executive since February 2009.  She will replace East Lothian's current Chief Executive, Alan Blackie, who retires in August.

In her current post at Clackmannanshire Council, Angela Leitch has a proven record of partnership working.  In the last year, she has led on the development of a shared services model of education and social services with Stirling Council in order to improve local outcomes and generate greater efficiency. This has been part of her wider business transformation programme for the Council which has seen it grow in success in the last two years, as confirmed by recent Audit Scotland reports.

Prior to this role, Angela was Head of Service with the City of Edinburgh Council, responsible for city-wide services and the development of an innovative new neighbourhood management and governance arrangement.  She joined the city council from West Lothian Council where she headed up their corporate support services and change management programmes, developing new models of service delivery in conjunction with partner organisations such as health and the police.

Angela has over 25 years experience in local government having started her career in human resource management and then gaining experience in a range of services, taking up increasingly senior roles at the same time.
Speaking about her new appointment, Angela commented:

"I am delighted to be offered the Chief Executive's role in East Lothian which is recognised as a well performing local authority.  I'm looking forward to working with elected members and staff in what we expect to be very challenging years ahead.  East Lothian is well placed to tackle these challenges.

"I would also like to wish Alan Blackie all the best in his well deserved retirement."

The appointment, which is subject to the normal pre-employment reference checks, followed two days of assessments and interviews held last week.  Angela Leitch is expected to take up her appointment in early September.
