School sings down memory lane

Dirleton Primary School continued its centenary year party recently with a Christmas concert featuring a specially formed Centenary Choir.
The concert took place in a packed village kirk on Wednesday 14 December with an appreciative audience of villagers, former pupils, parents, former staff and current pupils.
The Centenary Choir - made up of parents, staff, friends, villagers and former pupils - took the audience on a musical trip through the decades of the school’s existence. The older pupils introduced each decade with a short piece that they had researched about the world and the school during that time. They wore clothes representing the different decades. The selection of songs included It's a long way to Tipperary, Rock Around the Clock, Mama Mia and Umbrella.
Head teacher Sarah Ogden said:
It was a wonderful occasion with a nostalgic atmosphere as we viewed through song the school’s place in the pageant of history. I’ve had many cards since the concert from members of the local community thanking the staff, the performers and everyone else who helped in the organisation for a lovely evening.
And history is never far away: one person who wrote explained that her husband's grandfather was one of the founder members of the school and a school governor.
