The East Lothian Local Plan
The East Lothian Local Plan 2008 is the adopted local plan for the whole of East Lothian.
It explains and justifies the Council's approach to the development and use of land and buildings within East Lothian.
Together with the Edinburgh and the Lothians Structure Plan 2015 it forms the statutory development plan for East Lothian.
Supplementary Planning Guidance
The East Lothian Local Development Plan
The Planning etc. Scotland Act 2006 requires Councils to prepare new style Local Development Plans (LDPs). The Act also requires Councils to prepare Development Plan Schemes at least annually.
Edinburgh and the Lothians Structure Plan
The Edinburgh and the Lothians Structure Plan 2015 is the approved structure plan for an area covering the administrative areas of the four Lothian authorities: City of Edinburgh, East Lothian, Midlothian and West Lothian Councils.
It provides a wider strategic land use planning context for the amount and broad location of new development in the Lothians. Local plans must conform to the structure plan.
The Edinburgh and South-East Scotland Strategic Development Plan
The Planning etc. (Scotland) Act 2006 introduced a requirement to prepare Strategic Development Plans (SDP) for Scotland's four main city regions, replacing the current system of structure plans.
East Lothian is part of this new strategic plan (along with Edinburgh, Midlothian, West Lothian, Scottish Borders and part of Fife). SESplan is the new Strategic Development Planning Authority responsible for preparing this plan.
The Main Issues Report, an important first stage in the SDP process (MIR), has been prepared. Consultation on the MIR and related Monitoring Statement and Interim Environmental Report runs from the 31 May - 27 August 2010.
