Healthy Living in East Lothian

The Healthy Living Service takes the lead in shaping and developing an inclusive approach to sport, physical activity and health improvement.

Recognising that sport and physical activity play an important role in improving health and quality of life it brings together five key components - SportPlus, Active Schools, Health Equalities/Improvement, Recreation & Physical Activity and Sports Development.

Our aim is to raise awareness of the benefits of sport and physical activity, to provide opportunities for every individual in East Lothian to be more active and to create an environment in which taking activity is enjoyable.

Sports & leisure facilities

Enjoy the abundance of sports and leisure facilities available to you throughout East Lothian including a leisure pool, swimming pools, sports centres, golf courses and seasonal sporting facilities!

Local sports events

Each year the Healthy Living Service in East Lothian Council supports and/or organises several popular sporting events for locals and visitors alike.  You can get involved by taking part yourself, by volunteering to help or just by coming along to watch and cheer on the participants.

Sports development

East Lothian Council's Sports Development Team has 7 sports specific development officers covering the target sports badminton, basketball, disability sport, football, golf, hockey and rugby.

Active Schools

The Active Schools team consists of six primary and six secondary full-time coordinators. These coordinators are responsible for working in partnership with schools to increase the range of quality opportunities for pupils to become physically active.

Health and Wellbeing

Improving health and well being is a core priority for East Lothian Council. We are working with our community planning partners on a range of programmes and initiatives to make sure East Lothian residents can access what they need for a healthy lifestyle.
