East Lothian Museums Service operates three museums:
- John Muir's Birthplace
- Prestongrange, near Prestonpans
- Dunbar Town House
You can download our Museum Service leaflet in the downloads section at the foot of this page. See our Current Exhibitions page for details of what's on display at our museums.
North Berwick Museum closed in 2004. Options for its refurbishment are being considered by councillors and news of their decision should be available later in 2009.
Future Developments
The John Gray Centre is a new building which will house:
- the Haddington branch library
- the East Lothian Local History Centre
- a museum and exhibition space
- the East Lothian archives
The Centre will be created in converted listed buildings on Lodge Street in Haddington.
A grant of £1.39m from the Heritage Lottery Fund for the Centre was announced in April 2008. The Centre is due to open in 2011.
