Prestongrange Industrial Heritage Museum

Skip to pages in this document

CranePrestongrange is a site of major importance in the story of Scotland's Industrial Revolution. Former uses have included:

  • a 16th century harbour
  • a 17th century glass works
  • 18th & 19th century potteries
  • 19th & 20th century coal mine and brick works

Remnants of these industries can still be seen and many of the structures are still intact. Examples include the rare Hoffman Kiln (built in 1937) and the Cornish Beam Engine (unique in Scotland as it is the only beam engine still on the site where it worked).

Opening hours

The museum site is open to the public all day, throughout the year.

The visitor centre and exhibitions are open between 11am and 4.30pm from April to October.
