Community Councils

What are community councils?

Haddington High Street

East Lothian Council is committed to the development of community councils, helping to provide them with a meaningful role and the opportunity to have significant influence over how funding is spent in their area.

They are consulted fully on a range of issues, are involved in any new East Lothian Council initiatives, have a dedicated Community Council Liaison Officer and training courses are arranged periodically.

How are community councils funded?

Financial support to community councils in East Lothian has always been amongst the best in the country, with the provision of an administration grant and the Local Priority Scheme.

Under the Local Priority Scheme, each community council is granted a significant amount of money annually to enhance their local environment for the benefit of their community.
