Meals at home

If you are finding it difficult to cook for yourself, you may be eligible for our meals at home service.

Under the meals at home service, frozen meals are available following an assessment by one of our social workers to vulnerable people of all age groups in the county, such as elderly people or those with physical or learning disabilities etc. Download our guide to the meals at home service.

The meals are provided for the Council by apetito, which provides a range of high-quality and tasty dishes.

Customers can order their meals from a menu that has over 60 options. The meals are delivered either weekly or fortnightly, depending on your preference, for storage in the freezer until you are ready to cook them. Orders are placed directly with the apetito delivery person.

The meals can either be cooked in a conventional oven or microwave, or in a specialist apetito microwave.

If you do not have a freezer or a microwave, we can provide you with one so that you can store and cook your apetito meals independently.

The delivery driver is unable to help you cook or prepare your meals. If this is something that you are concerned about, we may be able to arrange for a carer to visit your home and support you. Again, this would be subject to an assessment by one of our social workers. You can find out more from our getting care at home section.

Assessment, eligibility and charging for services

There is a standard charge for the meals provision service, which will be explained to you at the time of your assessment. To find out more about assessments please read our assessment of need section.
