A new system of 'self-issue' has been introduced into some libraries
Community Services Cabinet Member, Cllr. Stuart Currie, was at Musselburgh library to help launch the introduction of new 'self-issue' PC's to some local branch libraries in East Lothian. The self service machines will be available in Musselburgh, Prestonpans, Tranent, North Berwick, Port Seton and Dunbar libraries and can be used by all library members from children to adults.
This project has been supported by the Scottish Government Public Libraries Improvement Fund with an award of £45,865 towards the cost of providing this service.
Cllr. Currie explained:
"Providing a self-service system offers library users the opportunity to borrow books without having to wait in a queue at busy times. This doesn't just save time but also increases productivity allowing library staff to focus on delivering a more personal customer service including helping readers to choose books or providing help on public access PCs without interruption."
The new self-service system utilises a touch screen interface with easy to follow instructions allowing library users to either check out or renew books. Smartcard functionality is available so that library members with a National Entitlement Card can use the system. A receipt is printed confirming which books have been borrowed and when they are due back.
The new system will be available at the libraries mentioned above from Thursday 29th January.
