Public consultation period begins for East Lothian's Older People's Strategy
Senior officials from East Lothian Council and NHS Lothian joined elected members at the official launch of the consultation phase of East Lothian's Older People's Strategy. The consultation period will offer opportunities for local people, carers, and service users to provide their opinions on the ground-breaking proposals.
The strategy will shape the development of health and social care services in the county over the next twelve years transforming the way in which many services are provided. The main aim is to assist older people to live independently at home, supported by an integrated network of high quality, person centred services.
Cllr. Ruth Currie, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, said: "This strategy places the needs and priorities of older people who use health and social care services firmly in the centre of our decision making. A major influence on the development of the strategy was the Scottish Government's stated aims to improve health, wellbeing and independence for older people. We have taken into account the growing population of older people in East Lothian and their expectations of a more personalised social care and health service offering more local and home-based provision."
Gerry Power, General Manager, East Lothian Community Health Partnership, NHS Lothian, said:
"It's important for local people, groups and patients to contribute and let us have their views on East Lothian's Older People's Strategy. Feedback from the consultation will allow our Council colleagues and ourselves to develop health and social care services that best meet the needs of older people."
