School information

Ross High School

Developments in the Ross High catchment area have seen an increase in pupils attending the school, further growth expected over the next few years. The school was built in 1954 and has been expanded several times, including in 2005, 2007 and 2022 The most recent extensions have been designed and brought forward to provide high quality facilities and additional capacity for all learners.

Elphinstone Primary School

Elphinstone Primary School opened in 1924 and has been extended several times over the intervening period, most recently in 2003. The school also has a community centre to the side of the building. The building contains three classrooms, a combined dining and sports hall, nursery, general purpose room, kitchen, staff room and two offices and has a community centre to its side.

Humbie Primary School

Humbie Primary School is one of East Lothian’s smallest schools. The traditional building dates from 1880 and offers two classrooms, a general purpose room, library, school and Head Teachers office. Humbie Primary shares a Head Teacher with Saltoun Primary although both schools retain their individual identity. The school has been mothballed for session 24/25.

Macmerry Primary School

Macmerry Primary school was originally built in 1882 and has been extended a number of times to increase capacity within the school. The school building contains 12 classrooms and a nursery.

Ormiston Primary School

The original building has been expanded over the years to accommodate the growing population including an expanded early years setting.

Pencaitland Primary School

Pencaitland Primary School has been in its current building since 1976. It comprises of a nursery, accommodated in a separate unit in the school playground, eight classrooms, some of which are semi open-plan, a library, gym hall with stage, a dining area, and a general purpose/music room.

St Martin's RC Primary School

St. Martin’s is a denominational primary school situated in the South West of Tranent. The 1903 building has five classrooms, a dining hall, gym hall, nurture room/ library, a support for learning room and two small GP spaces as well as school and head teacher offices.

Saltoun Primary School

A rural school that shares its Head Teacher with Humbie Primary, Saltoun Primary School is located in a traditional building within the village of East Saltoun village. The school consists of two classrooms, a nursery space and an upstairs open plan library space, a shared school kitchen/ dining room, main school office, Head Teacher's office and staff room. PE provision is off-site in the neighbouring Fletcher Hall.

Sanderson's Wynd Primary School

Sanderson’s Wynd Primary School’s current building opened in September 2008 bringing together the primary, nursery and Hub specialist provision as well as a community wing and Early Years Centre. The school contains 14 classrooms, two general purpose and two support for learning rooms, a kitchen, dining hall, sports hall and library, as well as a movement and dance room that can be split into separate rooms, three offices, two meeting rooms and a staff room. The Hub and Green Room, which is operated by the council, provides further accommodation through a Nursery playroom and four classrooms, a sensory room, soft play room and an office.

Windygoul Primary School

Windygoul is a modern, semi-open plan building opened in 2008 with 27 classrooms, a dining hall, gym hall, library, life skills room and sensory room. As well as a nursery, Windygoul has a Social Communication provision, Woodside, which supports children with autism and communication needs as part of the whole school community.
