Terms and conditions: North Berwick RNLI parking permit
RNLI permit details
The North Berwick RNLI may apply to the Council for the grant of permits for use on qualifying vehicles, the keepers of which are employed by or a volunteer member of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution based at North Berwick Lifeboat Station.
Conditions of use
RNLI permits may only be used by persons in the course of their duties.
RNLI permit holders can park in any designated RNLI parking place, permit parking place or combined parking place while the permit holder is in the course of their duties.
RNLI permit holders are not entitled to park in bays reserved for the exclusive use of:
- Electric vehicles
- Disabled motorists
All of the above are marked by a legend on the ground and/ or signing
RNLI permit holders cannot use permits to exempt themselves from charges or time restrictions in parking places or off-street car parks within the Controlled Parking Zone.
RNLI permit holders should always check the signage before parking and note that the permit does not permit:
- dangerous or obstructive parking including parking on, or near to a junction, or adjacent to dropped kerbs
- double parking
- parking on the pavement or verge
- parking in suspended bays or over access points to gardens, driveways or businesses
- parking where it would be an offence to do so, such as bus stops, on zigzag markings, or within markings at pedestrian crossings
Parking in contravention of any enforceable waiting and loading restriction may result in a Penalty Charge Notice being applied.
An RNLI permit cannot be used outwith East Lothian’s Controlled Parking Areas and does not provide any concessions with any other Council parking or access scheme.
The permit may not be used
- for any purpose other than while the permit holder is in the course of their duties at North Berwick Lifeboat Station
- for the personal or private business of the holder
- to park in resident only spaces in privately run car parks or when parking in areas where other parking enforcements apply
Misuse of permits
The Council has the right to withdraw entitlement to a permit or cancel a permit for misuse if it has reason to believe that it is not being used in accordance with the regulations. The Council also reserves the right to ask for further proof to establish the way in which a permit is being used; this may include checking with the RNLI. Any concerns that the permits are being used for reasons out with those permitted may be investigated under the Council’s or relevant employers Disciplinary Procedures. 4. 5.

The information collected when you apply for a parking permit will be used by the Council to process your application as we have an obligation under the law to maintain and manage roads in East Lothian.
