Health and social care worker permit
Permits are available for health and social care workers employed by NHS Lothian, medical practices, East Lothian Council or a registered home care company. Applications must be made by employers on behalf of their workers.
Health and social care permits cost £10 each.
1. Who can use the permit?
The permits can only be used by GPs, doctors, registered nurses or people working for a registered home care company carrying out domiciliary visits for patients who live within one of the three Controlled Parking Zones. It should not be used for any other purpose.
2. Where can permits be used?
Permits can be used in resident parking bays and in paid for bays. There is no time limit for resident parking bays. There may be other restrictions in place for paid for parking bays, such as time limits.
Permits are not valid in electric vehicle or RNLI bays, or disabled bays unless the driver also holds a Blue Badge. Drivers should check signage before parking in any other type of bay.
Please refer to the terms and conditions for full details to avoid a Penalty Charge Notice or the permit being withdrawn.
3. Applying for a permit
Registered care companies can apply for permits for their workers - check the terms and conditions for details on eligibility and contact parking@eastlothian.gov.uk for details. Only employers can apply, not individual employees.
As each permit is linked to the vehicle registration number, it will need to be supplied during the application process.
Paper permits will not be issued as parking attendants will use their handheld devices to check for a valid permit using the vehicle registration number
