Current coronavirus public gathering advice and guidelines

Following the announcement by the First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, on Monday 23 March regarding ‘a ban on gatherings in public places’, East Lothian Council is following the appropriate guidance which is to assist in limiting the spread of COVID-19 and to protect the NHS,

In addition to the closure of all non-essential shops, the Scottish Government has advised the closure of public spaces such as libraries and playgrounds, and places of worship. The ban also extends to ceremonial social events, such as weddings and christenings, with the exception of funerals which will be restricted to immediate family only. The First Minister was clear that these decisions are not taken lightly ‘but are essential for the protection of all of us.

We are advising local funeral directors of the need to restrict the number of mourners at our cemeteries and are grateful for your understanding during these difficult times.
