Regular Events and Activities

All of our museums offer a varied programme of events, exhibitions and activities throughout their open season with plenty to tempt visitors of all ages. We often have talks or events along the theme of our current exhibition, for example, art appreciation talks, tapestry workshops, talks about the collection or local history. More infomation can be found on the forthcoming events, activities and exhibitions pages.

Museum Guides and Tours

All visitors to the John Gray Centre can take advantage of our Museum Audio Guides. The main exhibition has been largely audio-described, with vivid descriptions of the objects on display and fascinating background information about them. The guides were developed to bring the exhibitions to life for visually impaired people and include optional navigational guidelines for getting around the exhibition. They are suitable for all visitors.

John Muir's Dunbar is a popular self guided walking tour that starts from John Muir's Birthplace and can link to the John Muir Way. We also provide a number of foreign language guides in John Muir's Birthplace. Tours of the historic Dunbar Town House are available on request during the summer season and at weekends during the winter.

Visitors to Prestongrange Museum can enjoy a guided tour during the months of April to September and can still tour the site using a mobile phone suring the closed months by calling the numbers on the signposts around the site.

Good Memories Café at the John Gray Centre

We host the Good Memories Café on the last Friday of the month at the John Gray Centre for people living with dementia and other memory issues and their carers. The café is a friendly and informal opportunity to chat, enjoy light refreshments and join in with the activities such as singing and music, crafts or handling replica objects. Forthcoming dates are advertised on our events pages or on the John Gray Centre website.
