COVID-19 and museums

As of 5th January 2021 East Lothian will be under lockdown along with the rest of the Scottish mainland and as such our Museums are now closed until further notice.

When we are able to reopen we will follow all relevant guidance to ensure a safe visit and the following key information for visits will apply. This will be updated if required or if Scottish Government guidance changes:

  • visits need to be pre-booked and details of how to do this are on each site's webpage
  • please maintain social distancing, follow directional signage, use the hand sanitiser or wash your hands regularly and wear a face covering (unless exempt)
  • do not visit if you or anyone in your household has any symptoms of coronavirus
  • we have removed some of the activities and interactives from our museums to protect visitors and staff - and have an enhanced cleaning regime in place
  • we have sneeze screens at desks, hand sanitising stations and one way systems around the museums
  • we are not currently able to offer tours or a café and shop at Prestongrange
  • we are not currently able to offer a shop at Dunbar Town House Museum and Gallery
  • none of our regular events or activities will resume for the time being
  • payment by credit or debit card is preferred at the John Gray Centre Museum and John Muir’s Birthplace Museum
