An order was laid in the Parliament on Monday 8 April 2019 to set the date for the European Parliament Election. This came into force on Wednesday 10 April 2019.

Polling for this election will be held on Thursday 23 May 2019 with votes counted on Sunday 26 May 2019.

The Notice of Election is required to be published on 15 April 2019.

The Regional Returning Officer (RRO) is Kenneth Lawrie and he has overall responsibility for the election.The 32 Scottish local authorities have Local Returning Officers (LRO) who are responsible for the election in their council area. Scotland is a single electoral region and the election is for 6 members to represent this region. The same ballot paper will be issued throughout Scotland.

Nominations must be made in person to the RRO (c/o the Elections Office, City of Edinburgh Council) between 16 April (10am) and to 25 April (4pm). Any enquiries regarding nominations should be made to elections@edinburgh.gov.uk.

Enquiries for Registration, Postal or Proxy Votes should be made to the Electoral Registration Office through the lothian joint evaluation board
