Drug Treatment and Testing Order (DTTO)

This Order may be imposed when there is a direct connection between offending behaviour and illicit drug use. The team is based in Edinburgh and anyone on an Order is expected to meet frequently with his or her social worker, resource worker and nurse as well as have ongoing contact with a doctor. The person is also required to attend Court for regular reviews where they discuss their progress with the sentencing Sheriff, Justice or Judge.

There are two types of Orders

  • Drug Treatment and Testing Order – these are usually instead of a prison sentence, for people who have a more serious drug addiction which underpins their offending behaviour
  • Drug Treatment and Testing Orders II - these are for people who are starting to offend because of their drug use or for people with additional vulnerabilities.
