Council services update.

Many council teams worked throughout the weekend to get traffic and services back to normal There continues to be a Met Office Yellow Warning of Snow. For more details please visit Met Office - Weather warnings.

Schools and Nurseries

All East Lothian Council schools, nurseries and specialist education provision will re-open on Monday 5 March.

There has been a huge amount of effort by our teams to clear snow from pathways – thanks to parents and residents for their assistance with this. Please be aware of surface conditions given the low temperature. Ensure children walking to school have appropriate footwear and are dressed to the conditions. In the interests of the safety, children and young people should go straight into the school building on arrival.

It has been confirmed that St David's RC School in Dalkeith, which is attended by some young people from East Lothian, will be open tomorrow.

There a small number of services in rural areas (a combination of buses and taxis) which will either not run or be disrupted due to road conditions on Tuesday. These are:

  • Yester Primary School (Route 118, 119, 120) - 118 will not run; 119 – Starting from Mainshill then normal route; 120 – Normal route but unable to serve Whittingehame Filter House.

Waste Services

Waste Services have resumed normal collection services for refuse, trade waste, special uplifts, food and kerbside box recycling today, Monday 5 March. Garden waste will remain suspended this week.

In some areas we are combating large accumulations of snow and ice where roads join pavements meaning there may still be some disruption to your service. Where possible it would be greatly appreciated if residents can clear access to containers or present in areas where access removes the need to lift bins and boxes over snow mounds.

Rural collections in particular are likely to be affected and in some cases prevented by road conditions.

All four Community Recycling Centres are open as normal now between 8.30am and 4.15pm.
