Unfortunately the season opening for Prestongrange museum is slightly delayed

Prestongrange museum, in Prestonpans, was due to open for the new season on Friday 30 March but essential maintenance works will mean that the museum will not be able to open until the following week.

Prestongrange Museum, is a popular visitor attraction with both outdoor and indoor areas to visit. Cllr Jim Goodfellow

Cllr Jim Goodfellow, Cabinet member for Community Wellbeing, said:

“Prestongrange Museum, is a popular visitor attraction with both outdoor and indoor areas to visit. The former colliery site also contained a brickworks, glassworks and pottery and is now a family friendly open air museum.

“The museum is a seasonal attraction and opens from spring to late autumn each year allowing maintenance to be programmed and carried out during the winter months. Unfortunately during the current programme of works further works were identified as requiring urgent action. This work is now being carried but will mean a delay to the planned opening date for the 2018 season.”

The works currently being carried out include new damp proofing and improvements to the toilets. It’s expected that the museum may be able to open on Friday 6 April and further updates will be posted on East Lothian Council’s website and social media.
