Council in discussions to secure school and supported bus services

Local bus operator First Scotland East announced today (Tuesday 24 May) that it will cease bus operations in East Lothian from 14 August 2016 and close its depots in North Berwick and Musselburgh.

East Lothian Council’s Cabinet Member for Transportation, Cllr Michael Veitch, said: “While any loss of employment and deterioration of bus services in the county is a matter of regret, we are fortunate to have various high quality bus companies already operating commercial services in our area and it may be hoped that one or more of these may be interested in serving some or all of these routes. In the mean time the council is actively working to secure school and supported bus services currently provided by First.”

Bus operators currently providing services across East Lothian include Eve Coaches, Lothian Buses, Perryman’s Buses and Prentice Coaches. East Lothian Council will discuss possible options for further services with a range of operators.
