It was a fantastic night for East Lothian at the 51st Beautiful Scotland Award Ceremony (Thursday, September 7).
The top award - the prestigious Rosebowl - was again won by North Berwick in Bloom. North Berwick collected the 2017 Coastal Town Award while Dunbar in Bloom won a Silver Gilt. There was success for Blooming Haddington, winning a gold medal in the medium town category.
The Wright Sustainability Trophy was presented to East Lothian Council in recognition of our approach to sustainable planting. The relationship between the council and local In Bloom groups was also praised.
Provost John McMillan said:
"I'd like to congratulate all the East Lothian winners - this is much-deserved recognition of all the effort and hard work which has gone into making the county look beautiful for residents and visitors alike. North Berwick, Haddington and Dunbar can be rightly proud of these achievements. I'd also like to thank volunteers in other parts of the county for their hard work and pride they take in their community.
“I'm delighted to see the council's sustainable planting efforts recognised. We receive many positive comments about planting and displays throughout East Lothian and I think most people would agree it's well worth the effort. It may be now September but hopefully there will be some nice weather this weekend for people to get out and about and enjoy beautiful East Lothian."
