Energy Funds and Support Services

There are many resources available to help with increasing energy costs

Winter Fuel Payment - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

If you were born before 28 June 1960 you could get between £100 and £300 to help you pay your heating bills for winter 2026 to 2027. This is known as a ‘Winter Fuel Payment’. Most people get the Winter Fuel Payment automatically if they’re eligible.

Cold Weather Payment

You may get Cold Weather Payments if you’re getting certain benefits or Support for Mortgage Interest. If you’re eligible, you’ll get these payments automatically. You do not need to apply, but you may need to tell Jobcentre Plus if you have a baby or if a child under 5 comes to live with you

The payments do not affect your other benefits.

Warm Home Discount Scheme

The Warm Home Discount Scheme is a one-off £150 discount off your electricity bill.If you’re eligible, your electricity supplier will apply the discount to your bill. The money is not paid to you. You’ll usually get the discount automatically if you’re eligible. You only need to apply if you’re on a low income in Scotland - contact your energy supplier to apply.

You may be able to get the discount on your gas bill instead if your supplier provides you with both gas and electricity and you’re eligible. Contact your supplier to find out.

The discount will not affect your Cold Weather Payment or Winter Fuel Payment.

Warmer Homes Scotland

The Scottish Government’s Warmer Homes Scotland programme offers support worth £10,000 or more for eligible households for energy-saving home improvements like heating and insulation to help make your home warmer and cheaper to heat.

Energy Hardship Fund

This fund provides vouchers that are distributed through local housing associations. Households will be eligible for up to six vouchers, each to the value of £49.

British Gas Energy Trust

The British Gas Energy Trust is an independent charitable trust, established in 2004 and solely funded by British Gas. Its mission is to alleviate the detrimental impact of poverty, with a focus on fuel poverty. Support is available to all individuals and households, regardless of their energy supplier.

Assistance is delivered through four principal programmes: debt relief grants direct to households with up to £2,000 in energy debt; a small grants scheme, delivered through a network of trusted partners, which provides emergency energy vouchers and essential white goods; funding for over 40 money and energy advice projects across Britain; and an outreach programme that brings expert money and energy advice directly into the heart of communities.
