Managing energy bills and heating your home

Find out about support available to help reduce your energy costs and heat your home efficiently.

Many people in East Lothian are finding it hard to keep their homes warm because of rising energy costs. This can lead to tough choices, like whether to heat your home or buy food. The cost-of-living crisis affected many households with an estimated 11,000 households (24%) within East Lothian in fuel poverty.

For many, fuel poverty means choosing between buying food and heating the home. Fuel poverty is linked to increased risk of debt, ill health and social isolation. It can also impact on a child’s education if they are off sick more regularly or don’t have anywhere warm at home to study.
