Order a replacement certificate from East Lothian Council

If the birth, death or marriage was registered in East Lothian since 1855, or if the civil partnership was registered in East Lothian since 2005, you can get a certificate through the East Lothian Registration Service. It may also be possible to obtain a certificate for an event registered anywhere in Scotland (between 1855 and last year).

 This service is only for events registered in Scotland. It is helpful to know:

• full names
• date of the event
• where the event took place

Select from the dropdown menu: "Copies of Birth Certificate etc." from the list, then select "Births, Deaths, Marriages", choose the type of certificate you want and complete the online form.

Costs and delivery

The cost of certificates bought within one month of registration is £10. For all other extracts the cost is £15. There is an additional charge of £2.30 for postage within the UK. For multiple copies of the same entry contact the Haddington Registrar’s office.

All payments outwith the United Kingdom should be in pounds sterling and in the form of an international money order or banker's draft.

Certificates will be sent within 20 working days, as we are working through a backlog of requests.

Adopted children

Copies of birth certificates for adopted children are only available from National Records of Scotland, New Register House, Edinburgh EH13 3YT.
