When will my child become eligible for Early Learning and Childcare?

Early Learning and Childcare eligibility for 3 and 4 year olds

When will my child become eligible for early learning and childcare?

Your child's eligibility to Early Learning and Childcare depends on their birthday.

If your child's third birthday falls between:

  • 1 March to the end of September, entitlement begins in August, or shortly after your child's third birthday
  • 1 October to 31 December, entitlement begins in January
  • 1 January and 28 February, entitlement begins after Easter break

We have a range of providers who offer places to 3- and 4-year-olds when they become eligible for nursery.

Your child can receive their funded hours entitlement in a school nursery, with one of our funded providers (private nursery, childminder or community group), or split between a school nursery and funded provider (blended placement).

Some two-year-olds are also eligible for Early Learning and Childcare funding - find out about early learning and childcare for Eligible 2 year olds
