Public Liability and Motor insurance claims

Public Liability

The Council has a centralised email inbox for insurance claims insurance@eastlothian.gov.uk. The insurance team manages claims made against the Council where negligence is alleged. Claims are a legal process, not a Council one, and therefore investigations may take time to conclude.

It is for any claimant or their legal representative to submit documentary evidence in support of their claim: claimants should ensure that their losses are kept to a minimum whilst investigations into liability are undertaken.

Motor

Where details are exchanged with an East Lothian driver after an incident, this does not constitute an admission of liability on behalf of the Council. The Councils insurers will investigate the cause of any alleged loss, damage and/or injury and determine whether liability attaches in line with the law.
