Information and support on court proceedings and what to expect when you attend a court.
A Fiscal Work Order can be given instead of taking a case to court. You may be asked to complete 10–50 hours of unpaid work in the community within six months. If you don’t complete the hours, your case may still be prosecuted. You must agree before a Fiscal Work Order can be put in place.
If you are prosecuted, you will usually go to the court closest to where the offence happened.
For people in East Lothian, this is normally Edinburgh Sheriff Court or the Justice of the Peace Court.
More serious cases are heard at the High Court.
For more information about Edinburgh Sheriff Court you can call 0131 225 2525.
