Could you provide support, safety and sanctuary for young people who arrive in the country without parents or guardians?

As many as five young people under the age of 18 arrive in Scotland each month. Many may have been trafficked or have fled war, instability or persecution, and are seeking sanctuary.

The children and young people will arrive with no possessions, connections, little or no English and will have likely faced traumatic experiences before and during their journey. Most will be aged between 16 and 18 years old. Each person will have faced unimaginable challenges, leaving behind all that they once knew, and now they need our support.

We are looking for non-judgemental people of all ages and from all backgrounds with patience and kindness to care for these children and young people in your home. You will help them settle into life in East Lothian, heal from their experiences and take their next steps. You don’t need particular care experience nor to have worked with young people: your attitude and approach is more important. You will be supported by one of our dedicated workers at all times and will also work alongside specialist services.

We need people who:

  • are non-judgemental, patient and understanding
  • are from all ages, backgrounds and with a range of experiences
  • have a spare room
  • can work with us to help them take their next steps in life

We offer:

  • full training and payment
  • a dedicated social worker to help you at all times
  • ongoing support
