Project Officer (I Bike Schools), East Lothian

We As the Project Officer, you will support schools across East Lothian to increase active travel, such as walking, wheeling and cycling.  Your work will help pupils, staff and local communities travel in healthier and more sustainable ways.

What you’ll be doing

  • Deliver behaviour change and engagement projects that encourage active travel
  • Plan, organise and run educational sessions, practical activities and events that help people make positive changes in how they travel
  • Build effective working relationships with schools, community groups and local authorities to support these projects
  • You will recruit, guide and support volunteers who help with the work of the Walk Wheel Cycle Trust, making sure they feel informed and confident
  • This role involves physical tasks such as lifting and moving bicycles, transporting boxes and equipment, and setting up activities within school environments. We welcome applications from all candidates and will consider reasonable adjustments to support individuals in carrying out these duties

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys delivering fun activities with children and adults, who thrives outdoors, with a flexible approach to working independently and in teams.

We’re looking for someone who has experience and understanding in the areas listed below

  • At least 3 years of experience working with community groups. This can be paid work or voluntary work.
  • An understanding of Active Travel (walking, wheeling, cycling) and the challenges faced by communities who experience inequality or barriers
  • Experience leading group workshops and presenting information clearly, both online and in person
  • Knowledge of safeguarding principles and the ability to apply safe working practices that promote the safety and wellbeing of children, young people, and adults at risk
  • You will be required to travel between schools and transport equipment as part of this role.  A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is therefore needed

Weekend Retail Assistant, Tranent

We’re Macplants Garden Centre – a specialist plant nursery in East Lothian, supplying thousands of plants to gardeners, landscapers, and trade customers across Scotland.  We’re passionate about proper plants, proper advice, and building a team of knowledgeable people who genuinely care about horticulture.  We’re looking for a weekend shop assistant to join our retail team — someone with strong plant knowledge who enjoys helping customers and takes pride in maintaining an exceptional retail environment.

The Role

You’ll work primarily within our retail shop and plant sales areas, helping customers choose the right plants while ensuring the nursery looks its best at all times. This is a customer-facing role ideal for someone who already has horticultural experience and enjoys sharing their knowledge with others.

Porter/Driver, East Lothian Community Hospital

Apprentice Mechanic, Tranent

To be trained as an apprentice Mechanic on the items of vehicles and plant within the Council Fleet.

Applicants should have achieved three National 4 or 5’s or 3 Standard Grades at credit/general level (1-4) including English, Maths and one other subject.  Proof of the qualifications will be required from those called to interview.

The apprenticeship will run for three years and during this period the successful applicant will attend GTG Edinburgh to attain the qualification applicable to this trade.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate commitment to their own learning and show that they are keen to become a qualified mechanic.

Veterinary Receptionist/Branch Supervisor, Prestonpans

We are currently seeking an enthusiastic individual with people skills and knowledge about pets to manage our Prestonpans veterinary clinic and join our team.

You will be responsible for greeting clients and their pets at the surgery, booking appointments, dealing with client enquiries both in person and on the telephone.  You will be responsible for the day to day running of the clinic, helping the vet, taking payments, ordering stock and keeping the branch clean and tidy.  Whilst we use a bespoke computer system for veterinary practice (full training will be given), candidates should possess a basic knowledge of Outlook, Excel and Word.

Full driving licence and use of vehicle an advantage but not essential.

The position is for Monday to Friday 3.30pm to 6pm (Prestonpans), with working one in four Saturdays 8.30am to 12.30pm (Tranent Branch).  13.5 hours a week.  Cover for holiday or sickness at our Tranent or North Berwick clinics will also be required so flexibility regarding hours would be preferred.

Preference will be given to those with a background in customer service, but a love of animals is important too.
