The Archaeology Service provides information and advice to the Planning department, developers and archaeological contractors.
Our main role is to assess planning applications submitted to both East Lothian and Midlothian Councils.
We determine if the proposed work is likely to have an effect on either known archaeological remains (or historic buildings) and/or any potential archaeological remains.
If a proposed development is thought to have archaeological implications then we will recommend that archaeological work is carried out either pre-determination or post-determination (i.e. before or during construction work).
