How to log in to all of our digital resources including the online catalogue, BorrowBox and Ancestry.

East Lothian Libraries provides free access to a number of digital resources through your library membership. For information on how to log in, scroll down to the service you're looking to access, click the plus sign and follow the instructions.

Ancestry

Ancestry Library Edition currently has over 4 billion records available to search, from historical censuses, immigration records, parish records, to military records and passenger lists.

Access is only available by visiting one of our libraries and using the library computers or by accessing through the library wifi.

ArtistWorks

ArtistWorks is an online learning platform founded in 2008 that offers video lessons and real-time feedback from Grammy award winning professional musicians across various instruments, including guitar, bass, banjo, and violin. If you have borrowed an instrument from our instrument library then this is the perfect resource for you!

It provides a comprehensive learning experience with step-by step lessons and personal video feedback from experts. The platform is designed to help musicians of all levels improve their skills in a variety of musical instruments from beginner to an advanced stage of playing. If you want to give this a go but you don't have an instrument, we offer a range of instruments you can borrow free of charge from our instrument library.

How to sign in to ArtistWorks

  1. Enter your Library Membership Number where it asks for your card number
  2. If you have a Membership Number beginning with B, include the B and the 9 digits
  3. If you have a 16-digit smartcard number, enter the first 14 digits only - don't enter the last two digits
  4. Your PIN is the 4 digit PIN provided when you initially joined the Library. If you have forgotten your PIN or Password, click on Forgot your PIN.

Borrowbox

Access a variety of eBooks and eAudiobooks for adults and children by downloading the Borrowbox app available from the Apple App Store, Google Play or Amazon Apps.

You will need your Library Membership Number and an email address.

  • enter your Library Membership Number where it asks for a username
  • if you have a Membership Number beginning with B, include the B and the 9 digits
  • if you have a 16-digit smartcard number, enter the first 14 digits only (ignore the last two digits)
  • if you have an online Membership number beginning with X, enter the X and 7 digits
  • your PIN/password is the same PIN you would use for accessing the Library Catalogue and provided when you initially join the Library. If you have forgotten your PIN/Password, please visit the Library catalogue to reset.

ComicsPlus

Borrow and read thousands of digital comics, graphic novels, and manga.

ComicsPlus, powered by LibraryPass, is a digital platform offering thousands of digital comics, graphic novels and manga to readers. With titles for both adults, young people and children there is an option for everyone. You can access titles using a smartphone, tablet, or web browser, and can be downloaded to multiple devices. There is never a wait to read, all titles are unlimited access simultaneous use.

How do I access ComicsPlus?

Simply log in with your library card number once on the ComicsPlus site.

  • if you have a membership number beginning with B, enter the B and the 9 numbers
  • if you have a 16-digit smartcard number, enter the first 14 digits only (with no spaces)
  • if you have an online Membership number beginning with X, enter the X and 7 digits

To access ComicsPlus on your mobile device you will need to download the LibraryPass app from your app store. Once app is downloaded, log in using your library card number and 4-digit pin.

Learn My Way

Learn My Way is a website made up of free online learning for beginners. The learning is centred around the digital world, helping you to build your skills and make the most of the online world.

National Library of Scotland

The National Library of Scotland has over 100 online resources that you can access for free to help you in work, research or leisure. Wherever you live in Scotland, you can sign up to access these resources from the comfort of your own home.

Log in or click 'join the library' to sign up using your email address.

Pressreader

Pressreader provides full content digital replicas of more than 7000 titles from 100 countries in 60 languages, and allows users to views magazines and newspapers on-screen exactly as they would appear in a familiar print edition.

Advanced features include keyword searching, language translation, text-to-voice, article sharing, and social networking. Content is always up to date and is often available before print editions.

Sign in through the Pressreader website or Pressreader app using your library membership card number and pin.

  1. Click 'Sign in' and select the 'Library or Group' button.
  2. Search and select 'East Lothian'
  3. Enter your Library membership number and pin as follows:
    • if you have a membership number beginning with B, enter the B and the 9 numbers
    • if you have a 16-digit smartcard number, enter the first 14 digits only with no spaces
    • if you have an online Membership number beginning with X, enter the X and 7 digits
    • your pin/password is the same PIN you would use for accessing the Library catalogue and provided when you initially join the library. If you have forgotten your pin, visit the library catalogue to reset

At this point you can set up a personalised account by completing the required fields. However, you do not need to do this.  A personalised account gives you access to features such as sharing, and commenting. If you do not wish to set up a personalised account then click on 'No Thanks' or 'cancel'. 

Please note - users get 30 days of access to Pressreader and once this access has expired you will need to sign out and sign back into the app or website using your library card number and pin to reactivate for a further 30 days access.

Scotland's People

Scotland's People is a resource set up by the Scottish Government to help you learn all about Scottish heritage and your family history. Not all records are free of charge but they do have a wide range of free resources.

On Scotland's People you can:

  • search records about people, places and more
  • learn through our news and articles
  • order copies of certificates

Theory Test Pro

Theory Test Pro is a highly realistic online simulation of the UK's driving theory tests for all vehicle categories.

It contains all the official test questions licensed from the DVSA, the people who set the tests.

  • unlimited access to all the official questions from the DVSA in the same format as the official test
  • includes online version of Highway Code
  • realistic hazard perception video simulations
  • access to test banks for car, motorcycle, passenger carry vehicle and heavy goods vehicle categories
  • machine translation into over 40 different languages
  • speech-enabled tests so you can listen to questions

Trove

Trove.scot is an e-resource bringing together Historic Environment Scotland’s diverse collections in one convenient place. It combines information from the Historic Environment Portal, Canmore, as well as images previously on SCRAN.

Whether you have a personal interest, you're a professor, or part of Scotland’s archaeological sector, trove.scot is your companion to researching Scotland’s past.

You can use it to find out about listed buildings and other designated places, see archive images and explore every corner of Scotland.

You do not need a user account to access Trove, just follow the link to start your search.

Transparent Language

Transparent Language Online is a online language course which provides free unlimited access to library members.It offers the widest variety of high quality learning materials and integration of real-life language used by native speakers.

  • unlimited access to courses in over 90 languages from Afrikaans to Zulu
  • learn to listen, speak, read and write with online lessons catering for all learning abilities
  • English Learning for Beginner and Intermediate levels with English materials for speakers of more than 25 languages including Ukrainian. 
  • KidSpeak™  is accessible through Transparent Language Online and is a fun, age appropriate online language course for children ages 6 and up! Available for English, French, German, Italian, Mandarin Chinese and Spanish
  • Transparent Language Online also includes courses for professionals designed to help learners increase their ability to use the language effectively in real life situations. "For professionals” courses are currently available in Modern Standard Arabic, German, Indonesian, and Italian.

uLibrary

Listen to a variety of eAudiobooks for adults instantly from your phone or tablet with the uLibrary app. 

Download the uLibrary app from the iOS app store or the Google Play store. You can also access via your browser.

Once downloaded simply select 'East Lothian Library Service' from the drop-down menu and enter your library barcode and pin.

You will also get access to the monthly book club title from the Bookworms Book Club for younger listeners and the Talking Books Book Club for adults and experience the best audiobooks available!

How to access the book club via the uLibrary App

After you have logged in, enter the account section by clicking ‘uLibrary’ in the footer.

Select the ‘Book Clubs’ tab from the list.

Alternatively they can be reached via the Book Club banner which is found in the footer of the eAudiobooks section

From here you can see the month’s book club titles. Tap ‘Download’ to launch the player for that month’s selection and begin listening to the title. The title will only be active within the Book Club tab for that month

However, uLibrary are currently adding functionality to extend the listening period.  Once added the extend function will appear 7 days before the title’s expiry date as long the user has previously pressed ‘Download’ within the book club month. Once the extend button is pressed the title will be active for one additional month.

 

How to access the book club via the web browser

Once logged in, enter the account section by clicking ‘My Account’ at the top of the page. Select ‘Book Clubs tab’ from the list.

From here you can see the month’s book club title. Click ‘Listen’ to launch the audio player.

Universal Class

If you are looking to get ahead at work or at school, interested in learning something new or brushing up on your existing skills, we are pleased to offer you access to Universal Class.

Universal Class is an online learning platform that allows you to take courses at your own pace while you interact with a live instructor via email.

It offers expert advice, legal services, provider comparisons, helplines, as well as online product reviews and impartial consumer advice to help you make the right choice when buying products.

Online access is only available at Haddington, Musselburgh and North Berwick libraries. Please see a member of staff for information how to access. Print copies are also available at these locations.
