A warm welcome to your new website
We’ve made improvements to help you find what you need more easily. If anything doesn’t work as expected, please let us know using the feedback button below.
If you have only recently learnt to use a computer, you'll know that it's easy to forget how to do something. Our Computer Buddies scheme is set up to help you navigate the world of computing in a friendly and helpful way.
Buddies are members of the public who have volunteered to provide help to beginners in computing. They may not necessarily be computer experts but they have the skills and understanding to help a new computer user practice their skills like word processing, email and navigating the internet.
Please bear in mind that to use the Computer Buddies scheme you need to be a registered member of East Lothian Libraries. If you're not, speak to the staff at your local branch for information on how to get registered.
We'll match you up with a Computer Buddy who will sit with you while you work on a device in the library. They will be there to give you a hand if you get stuck and can maybe even show you a few new tricks. You should know in advance what you want your buddy to help you do, so we can let them know what they'll be doing with you and make sure you get a buddy who knows how to help.
You and your buddy will usually meet at a time that suits you both for an hour a week for up to six weeks. This can be flexible and arranged by you and your buddy. The meeting will always take place in the library.
If you think a Computer Buddy could help you, contact your local library or download and fill out the application template and email it to computerbuddies@eastlothian.gov.uk
If you need help to complete or submit your application, ask your local library next time you're in and they'll be happy to help.
Further information and application form
Are you an experienced computer user? Are you a patient and good listener? Would you like to help others to learn? Can you give up an hour or two a week? If the answer is yes, you can help us by becoming a Computer Buddy.
A buddy sits in the library with a beginner who is practicing new skills and gives encouragement, useful tips and answers questions.
You don't have to be a computer expert to be a buddy - it may even be easier for you to understand what the beginner is going through if you aren't! If you use a computer, phone or tablet regularly, send emails and make searches on the internet, you know everything you need to know to help a beginner.
If you would like to know more about becoming a Computer Buddy, please contact your local library or send an email expressing your interest to computerbuddies@eastlothian.gov.uk
