These changes are similar to those in many towns elsewhere in the country and are intended to make it easier for people to find a space, visit local businesses, and access nearby facilities.
The new measures also support fair and safe parking. They help fund the presence of two parking attendants, contribute towards improvements to local transport, and encourage more active ways of travelling.
Since the scheme began, the attendants have been out in the community offering advice and support to drivers.
They will now be placing advisory notices on vehicles that are not parked in line with the rules (for example, where a permit or payment is needed, or where time limits have been exceeded). These notices are simply to raise awareness and help people adjust.
In due course, Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) will be issued where the parking rules are not being followed. A start date for this will be confirmed in due course. We are grateful to everyone for their support.
