Education Resource Group (ERG)

The decision to provide a placement for a child or young person in a primary or secondary specialist provision is taken by the Education Resource Group (ERG), and for Early Learning & Childcare specialist provision by the Early Years Education Resource Group (EY ERG).

The EY ERG and the ERG determine the following:

  • access to early years outreach support;
  • requests for an additional funded year of Early Learning and Childcare when a child does not meet the criteria for an automatic deferral;
  • request for consideration for specialist ASN provision as identified through the Child Planning Framework;
  • placing requests for a specialist ASN provisions and
  • school retentions, namely requests for children and young people to ‘repeat’ a stage in school education
