The Promise in East Lothian

The Promise is Scotland’s commitment to ensure that all care experienced babies, children, young people and their families grow up loved, safe, and respected.

Our approach is grounded in The Promise foundations:

Voice

Children and young people are listened to and involved in decisions about their lives. Their experiences and views shape how services are designed and delivered.

Family

Children should stay with their families wherever it is safe to do so. Families are supported early, without judgement, to help them stay together and thrive.

Care

When care is needed, it should feel like real care, stable, nurturing, and based on strong relationships. Children should feel a sense of belonging and know they are valued.

People

The adults around children matter. As corporate parents, we focus on building trusting, consistent relationships with people who care, listen, and stay.

Scaffolding

Children, young people and families should get the right support at the right time. Services work together to remove barriers and provide help that is flexible and responsive.

As corporate parents, we are committed to:

  • Putting relationships and love at the heart of everything we do
  • Listening to lived experience and acting on what we hear
  • Supporting families early to reduce the need for care
  • Ensuring that when care is needed, it is safe, stable, and nurturing

Our ambition is that every care experienced child and young person in East Lothian grows up feeling loved, supported, and able to thrive.
