Early Learning and Childcare in East Lothian

Early Learning and Childcare eligibility, school nurseries, funded providers, and deferring entry to Primary school

Families of eligible children can access up to 1140 hours of Scottish Government funded Early Learning and Childcare each year.

East Lothian Council is committed to providing high quality, flexible Early Learning and Childcare that is accessible and affordable to all families. We have a range of providers who offer places to 3- and 4-year-olds when they become eligible for nursery.

Your child can receive their funded hours entitlement in a school nursery, with one of our funded providers (private nursery, childminder or community group) or split between a school nursery and funded provider (blended placement). The information on these pages explains the different options available.

Some two-year-olds are also eligible for Early Learning and Childcare funding - find out more
