ClimatEvolution – schools’ consultation
A public consultation is underway on plans to ensure a major area of change in the county can become a national example of environmentally-friendly and inclusive development.
The area includes the Blindwells New Town Development Area, the former Cockenzie Power Station site and parts of the surrounding area including existing towns and villages, and has been identified as a place-based response to East Lothian Council’s Climate Change Strategy.
As part of this consultation exercise we want to hear views from our schools and young people on the proposals for the future of this area.
ClimatEvolution Vision and Action Plan
The visionary document, called ClimatEvolution Vision and Action Plan, is the basis of the consultation which asks all interested parties for their views on all or part of the strategy. The consultation is currently live on the council’s Consultation Hub and we have extended the deadline for school responses until 16 October 2020 to take into account the challenges of a consultation during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Programme of Engagement
There is information available on the council’s website which goes into detail on the strategy. Extra outreach has been carried out by way of direct engagement with groups such as community councils, area partnerships and other communities of interest. With the return of pupils to schools, we are now seeking to carry out engagement with you.

To help you understand the reason for drawing up the document and what it seeks to achieve we have prepared a video which sets out the background to the ClimatEvolution Vision and Action Programme as well as some of the main proposals.

We invite you to:
- view the video and consultation documents to understand the emerging strategies and proposals - to help you form an opinion and a consultation response on them
- produce a consultation response setting out whether and why you or your school supports the proposals - or what changes you think should be made
- submit your consultation response before the October break and by 16 October 2020 - so the council can take it into account when finalising the vison and action programme for the area
