Keeping warm, keeping costs down
Everyone should have a warm home, but in a time of rising utility costs that can be expensive. The Council has published this guide to managing your bills.
Help is on hand to help to make your home more energy efficient, so it costs less to heat. This also means fewer emissions into the environment. There are two main source of advice on energy efficiency and fuel billing available for East Lothian residents.
Home Energy Scotland
The Energy Saving Trust manages delivery of the Affordable Warmth and Energy Assistance Schemes through the Home Energy Scotland hotline (on behalf of the Scottish Government.) To find out what they can offer you, telephone the hotline on 0808 808 2282 or visit the Home Energy Scotland website.
East Lothian Energy Advice Service
The East Lothian Energy Advice Service is run by Changeworks and is funded by East Lothian Council and provides specialist advice and practical support to help people stay affordably warm in their homes.
Changeworks runs advice surgeries in Musselburgh and Haddington. These are arranged by appointment, with the local Citizens Advice Bureau. Days may vary but are generally as follows:
- At Musselburgh CAB (High Street) on the last Thursday of each month.
- At Haddington CAB (Court Street) on the last Wednesday of the month.

People’s Energy, which provided affordable ‘East Lothian Energy’ tariffs for local residents, has ceased to trade.
