Innovation projects - BT green cabinets

In May 2024, BT Group installed a charge point powered from a street cabinet in Haddington in a trial testing whether the BT cabinets traditionally used to store broadband and phone cabling, could have a second-life enabling local vehicle charging.

BT reached a decision in January 2025 to discontinue the trial, and East Lothian Council is reviewing how the charger can be kept in use.
