East Lothian offers a great variety of landscapes for walking with the Lammermuir Hills to the south, a coast of beaches and cliffs and an expanse of arable farmland in between.
Many of the paths go to, or pass, vantage points offering views of the surrounding rolling landscape.
Amongst the features are many hidden gems: river valleys, woodlands, secret bays and historic sites. Whilst we have listed these routes as suitable for walkers, sections may also be suitable for cyclists and horse riders.
Local path networks have been developed around a number of communities. These offer a variety of walks around the towns and villages and surrounding countryside, a number of leaflets and/or descriptions of walks have been produced on the Visit East Lothian website, each detailing the routes available in local areas.
