What are Foundation Apprenticeships?
Foundation Apprenticeships are two year courses at SCQF level 6 (equivalent to a Scottish Higher) offered to all S4 and S5 pupils. They combine classroom learning with work-based experience in sectors that expect to see job growth until 2027.
There are six courses in East Lothian for S4-S5 pupils:
- Business Skills
- Financial Services
- Scientific Technology
- Social Services, Children and Young People
- Social Services and Healthcare.
We work with a range of employers to provide placements that will give pupils valuable work experience and industry contacts.
After finishing you can choose to move into further or higher education. Alternatively you might choose a pathway straight into the workplace or another form of apprenticeship (such as paid Modern or Graduate Apprenticeships). Whichever route you choose, the insight and experience you have gained from the workplace partnerships could help to differentiate between you and other applicants.
