Be a community councillor.  2025 nomination deadline 18 September

The Notice of Election for community councils has been published today, Monday 1 September.

The nomination period runs from 1 September until 4pm on Thursday 18 September.  Nomination forms are available to download, collect from ELC, John Muir House, Haddington, or by contacting the Election Office elections@eastlothian.gov.uk  01620 820183. 

Completed forms must be submitted by 4pm on 18 September.

An election will only be required if there are more people nominated than places available on the community council.  Should any elections be necessary they will take place on Thursday 9 October.

Community Councils are run on a voluntary basis by local people. They act as a vital link between East Lothian Council and the local area and give residents an opportunity to speak out on local issues of concern. Meetings are usually held once a month.

There are 20 Community Councils in East Lothian:

Cockenzie and Port Seton, Dunbar, Dunpender, East Lammermuir, Garvald and Morham, Gifford, Gullane Area, Haddington and District, Humbie, East and West Saltoun and Bolton, Longniddry, Macmerry and Gladsmuir, Musselburgh and Inveresk, North Berwick, Ormiston, Pencaitland, Prestonpans, Tranent and Elphinstone, Wallyford, West Barns, Whitecraig.

If you are interested in becoming a member of a Community Council you must be age 16 or over.
