The next UK Parliamentary election will take place in 2024.
Under the Fixed term Parliaments Act 2011 these elections are set at a 5 year period, however, there are provisions that can trigger an election outwith this period.
The voting system for the UK Parliamentary election is the First Past the Post system.
To become a Member of the UK Parliament (MP) in Westminster a candidate simply has to win more votes than any other candidate standing in a particular constituency. Electors in East Lothian vote for an MP to represent the East Lothian Constituency.
